Behavior Coaching · Families and Schools

You are already the most important person in your child's day.

Steady Roots is behavior coaching. There are a few different ways to work together — you don't have to know which one you need. We talk first, and then decide where the support actually belongs.

What I offer

A few different ways to work together.

These are separate services, not tiers of one package. If you are a family, you don't need to pick correctly before we speak — I ask about what is going on first, and we choose from there. Schools and daycares contract staff training on their own, separately from any family I work with.

Parent Coaching

No diagnosis required. Practical strategies for challenging behavior, communication, and routines that aren't working — no paperwork, no referral.

Details

Parent Training

Autism diagnosis required. Structured individualized caregiver training billed under CPT 97156, with a monthly superbill you can submit to your plan.

Staff Training

For schools and daycares. Group workshops for teachers, aides, and support staff on ABA principles and classroom strategies — plus ongoing behavior coaching where a program needs it. Contracted by the program, not a family.

What parent-led ABA means

In most ABA models, a technician works with your child for many hours a week while you watch. Parent-led is the reverse. I work with you.

We pick the routines that are hardest in your house. I show you what to do, you practice while I watch, and I give you feedback on the spot. Then you run it during the week and we look at how it went.

Your child spends far more hours with you than they would ever spend with any provider. Coaching puts the skills where those hours are.

What we work on

Start with what costs your family the most.

You choose the routines. Narrow beats broad when you're already stretched.

Communication

Helping your child ask for what they want, tell you no, and be understood. Words, signs, or a device.

Daily routines

Mornings, meals, bath, bedtime. The parts of the day that take an hour when they should take ten minutes.

Hard behavior

Understanding what a behavior is doing for your child, and teaching something that works better.

Transitions

Leaving the house, ending screen time, switching activities without the whole thing falling apart.

Following through

Staying consistent when you are tired, and getting everyone else in the house on the same page.

Knowing it's working

Simple tracking you can keep up with, reviewed together so you can see movement.

Fit

Who this is for, and who it isn't.

A good fit if

  • You are on a waitlist for services and want to start now
  • Your child has therapy, but home is still hard
  • You want to understand the why, not just follow instructions
  • You can set aside time to practice between sessions

Not the right fit if

  • You need a diagnosis or an evaluation
  • Your child needs direct one-to-one therapy hours
  • There is a safety crisis that needs immediate in-person support
  • You are looking for someone to work with your child instead of you

If any of these apply, tell me anyway. I would rather point you somewhere useful than take you on.
